Title: Chasing My Cure

Author: David Fajgenbaum

Genre: memoir/non-fiction

I'M NOT CRYING, YOU'RE CRYING.

Although this book doesn't have the happy ending nor full-on "ah-HAH" moment of a House episode, Fajgenbaum's story makes me cry, makes me feel pretty damn horrified at the state of the healthcare system, and also gives me hope. The writing matches the person he describes himself to be 100%: hyper focused, optimistic while being realistic, and intensely goal-driven. While I did get tired of the football metaphors after a while, Fajgenbaum does an excellent job of dumbing the medical stuff down to a highly accessible level without it at all feeling condescending. I also love what he learns about his own beliefs around epiphanies and hope; how both are not these divine-intervention sort of events, but are the result of every single step that got you to that point.
