Title: Lab Girl

Author: Hope Jahren

Genre: memoir / essays

I didn't love this book as much as I thought I would, but that's more on me than it is Jahren, I think. The parts of the story I most enjoyed were the ones about Jahren's quirky and beautiful relationship with her lab partner Bill, the depictions of her manic-depressive episodes, and the chapter where she takes us through the agonizing details of her pregnancy and birth. These representations were mesmerizing. The sciency chapters...not so much. The amount of detail leaned into the realm of textbookiness, which made my eyes glaze over more than a few times. But, diversity in experience (and reading material) is everything, and this interesting fusion of memoir and science journal was worth the read.
