Title: I'm Afraid of Men
Author: Vivek Shraya
Genre: personal longform essay
This short little book is a morose punch to the gut. Shraya gives the reader a brief but vivid look into her life and experiences, and picks apart pieces of society that have not only hurt her, but continue to hold everyone back from the magic they could be.
I wanted it to be more succinct. The book was sliced into three parts, but I didn't feel much of a divide in the ideas explored in each of the sections. Also (and definitely moreso), I wanted more. Shraya's observations and conclusions are insightful, and I wanted to be gifted with more of those ideas - but then, regretfully, the pages ran out.
