Well, this isn't the list of books I initially wanted to include in this post, but suddenly it was 2019 and the 2018 timeline is one parameter of this challenge I refuse to forsake!

Our scruffy teenage heroes continue to face heavier and heavier moral issues. In the face of a cannibalistic Controller, Cassie wants blood but doesn't have the guts to do more than demand Jake commits the crime (can't say I ever had such a dilemma with my own junior high/high school crush...AWKS); Tobias gets his morphing mojo back but, surprise, he's still a hawk (Ellimist, you tricky bastard); and Rachel not only incites the instant maple and ginger oatmeal drug epidemic on the Yeerks, but for good measure brings the GODDAMN ROOF DOWN on the entire Yeerk pool.

The Animorphs are a busy, busy bunch!

What I continue to love about this series is that these kids are dealing with tough issues around morality and ethics, and they really don't have anyone but each other to keep themselves in check - nor do they have the luxury of an outside perspective/sounding board upon which to just vent. For such short and plainly written books, the author does a great job of balancing the thrill of the adventure with the chill of the implications.
