Title: Every Heart a Doorway (Wayward Children #1)

Author: Seanan McGuire

Genre: fantasy

What an awesome concept. Oh man - it's like the aftermath of Narnia + Xavier's school for gifted children + Coraline-creepy vibes. The writing is classic McGuire, vibrant and slippery and quirky. And the diversity. So refreshing. In less than 200 pages, McGuire gives us complex and interesting characters that span the actual diversity of humans. I feel like I can breathe in the presence of her characters, like finally there is a story to smash the noisy and boring white/male narratives saturating the market.

The end is a bit obvious, but I love this world with all my heart (I wanted to be one of those girls, to find a door that speaks to that thing inside me that is broken in this world but a treasure in another) and want everyone and their dog to read it.
