Title: The Dreamers
Author: Karen Thompson Walker
Genre: speculative sci-fi

The trick with this book is to just get into it, because the writing is a little weird, a little different, and at first it seems like a lot of effort to just sit down and read. Once you do, though, get ready to be swept away by the ethereal atmosphere and incredible characters Walker creates. The POVs that drive the overarching story are each and every one interesting and heartbreaking, and subvert expectations in some way or another. I never feel as though one story is weaker than the other, nor do I ever want to rush through or jump ahead.
My biggest critique of this book is the ending. I was getting some serious Fringe and OA vibes, with all the talk about dreams and time and perception, and was, ah, unsatisfied with the answers to the piles and piles of questions rattling around in my brain.
But, I think the mark of a good book is that it haunts your brain long after you've read that last sentence, and this book definitely still holds court in my daily thoughts.
