Title: The Last Unicorn
Author: Peter S. Beagle
Genre: Fantasy
So this book is on my list because, to band-aid the pain of waiting and waiting and WAITING for Patrick Rothfuss' final installment of the Kingkiller series, I turned to his reading list to fill the void - and this was one of the many books on that list.

My main takeaway? I can sure see a reflection of this book in Rothfuss' own. Beagle's descriptive text is absolutely STUNNING. It rolls and rambles across all the senses, employing metaphor and simile so effectively the reader barely notices their use over the roaring realness of it all.
The best thing though? The rules of magic. They are slippery, mysterious things. To be honest, I've been putting off this review simply because I don't know how to do this aspect of the books justice. A character will speak a word of power, but neither the reader nor the character will know what that word is - but, still, it will blaze through them like a storm. GOOSEBUMPS, I TELL YOU.

Title: Two Hearts
Author: Peter S. Beagle
Genre: Fantasy novelette

Isn't novelette just the nicest little word? Somehow it's cuter than novela, like a weeny baby novel...
AHEM. Anyways...
This short little jaunt is told by the adorable and feisty Sooz. I admire a man who can write women and children in a way that does them justice - especially in fantasy - and Beagle does just that. THANK YOU PETER; THANK YOU. Sooz's voice is flawless, and we get to see characters from The Last Unicorn once again.
And Beagle sets himself up for another Sooz book, in many years when she turns 18...
