Title: God Help the Child
Author: Toni Morrison
Genre: surrealist fiction

Again and again, I am in awe of Morrison's imagination, and her execution in bringing the things in her brain to life on the page in elegant prose that is somehow more than just ink on paper. The words live in my body somewhere, and Morrison summons things into being that I didn't even know were available for me to experience in this life.
If that makes no sense, don't worry about it. Suffice to say, I am a Morrison convert. Her characters are the most complex beings I have ever encountered, and every new book - every new chapter - is exciting because there's no way to know who the hell she is going to introduce next.
Oh, right - what's this story about? The ghosts of childhood, love, family, grief...that old undying cycle.
