Title: Drown
Author: Junot Díaz
Genre: flashbulb fiction
Short fiction STRIKES AGAIN!

This was so fricken good. Díaz tells the story of Yunior - young and growing up and being older - as well as dipping into the lives of the people around him.
Each story shares a strong, melancholic, and tough-as-nails voice. Yunior could easily be unlikeable, with his coarse language and the stories of drugs and family/women battering, and rough living - but he's not. Díaz writes in a way that makes the reader root for Yunior, who is just doing the best he can with what he's got. Maybe it's the colour that seems to jump of the very pages, the movement behind the reader's eyes ("mangoes thudding") - whatever it is, I'm here for it.
