Title: The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo

Author: Taylor Jenkins Reid

Genre: contemporary LGBTQ+ romance

Ahhh. Talk about a needed breath of fresh air after the icky feeling The Dark Tower II left on my skin.

I really really enjoyed this book. It's got ladies being amazing in a male-dominated world, and shows some wonderfully strong characters figuring out how to be purely themselves and embrace all definitions of ethnicity, sexuality, sex, and family.

Monique, the main speaker, is so-so. Her perspective fades in comparison to the bright and lively tale of Evelyn Hugo. I just loved working my way through Evelyn's life. Her rise to fame actually reminds me of the journey Busy Phillipps describes in her memoir This Will Only Hurt a Little. What's fascinating about this novel, though, is how Evelyn accepts and utilizes her perceived sexuality to protect herself and the people she loves, all while rocketing her star of fame to the very, very top.

And the twist - absolutely freaking worth it. UTTERLY unpredictable. LOVED IT.
