Title: At the Wolf's Table Author: Rosella Postorino (translated from Italian by Leah Janeczko) Genre: Translated historical fiction

Although this book had some excellent components, including promising characters and an interesting premise, it just...fell flat. Maybe the reason is that the English rendition is a translation from Italian, or maybe the same issue remains in the novel's original language - whatever the case, although I enjoyed the characters and their plights, and although the plot moved at a good pace and had engrossing turns and twists, at the end of it all I'm left with only a mild impression of the book.
That being said, I would recommend this novel simply for the perspective - I haven't read too many WWII stories about Germans in the midst of the war, and the suspicion and fear felt by the Germans themselves definitely adds a level of tension; nobody, apparently, is safe.
