This is the book I needed as a teen - I mean, damn, I even need it now, as an adult! The feelings in this book, conveyed with immense artistry through pages of prose, are raw and real. The unfairness and the helplessness of trying desperately to flourish in a world, in a household, where the very things that make you you are dismissed and overlooked, where your appearance and you parents' expectations overshadow the things that go on inside your head...the emotions around all of those things (which, honestly, who hasn't experienced??) are conveyed loud and clear through Xiomara's POV.

Excuse me while I pick up the pieces of my frayed emotions.
