Title: The Joy Luck Club

Author: Amy Tan

Genre: domestic fiction

Tan is a fantastic storyteller. I love the mix of styles and perspectives contained in this story, from the Chinese folklore to stories of the old country to the young women growing up in San Francisco. The author creates a tapestry of a tale, with all these different stories woven together to form a wholistic and many-sided epic.

That being said...

I did find all the different perspectives hard to keep track of, and feel like alot of the inter-perspective character development was lost on me just because I had a hard time remembering who was who's daughter and/or mother...yeeeeah, I'm a super lazy reader. But also, although the stories different, the POVs themselves, the writing, wasn't different enough for a distinction to easily be made.

All in all though, Tan is a beautiful writer and I did thoroughly enjoy this book - which has been on my list for way WAY too long.
