Title: The Girls
Author: Emma Cline
Genre: history-inspired coming-of-age fiction
Whooooooaaaaaaaaaa, what a mother-effin TRIP.
Cline's writing traps the reader in Evie's story, winding a subtle and intoxicating tale of a young girl becoming enthralled in a culty commune, and narrowly avoiding an event that shatters the lives of those around her.

I was HOOKED the entire time. Cline somehow writes with what feels like an underlying nature of rot - she describes beauty and travesty in the same breathe, lulling the reader while also inspiring a sense of panic, of terror, of unease. It's amazing.
The story itself is a strange one, and Cline does an excellent job of depicting the surrender to madness that is joining a cult. By the end, I can 100% understand how the titular girls get where they do, and even get the kind of perverted FOMO the protagonist feels at escaping the final heinous act.
HEEBY JEEBIES GALORE.
