A little slow to get into, but when this story takes off, holy shit watch OUT. Kirino creates an uncomfortable and resonating world - the female characters wage small, personal wars against lost hope and empty lives governed by societal expectations, and when they are dragged/thrown into a murder, I find myself rooting for them AND shrinking away, horrified, at what everyone does to to survive.

The best thing about this story is how absolutely unexpected everything is. I had no idea where Kirino was taking us, but she does an excellent job of creating an urgency, a sensation of motion towards something, without the reader really knowing what that point is until the apex of anticipation.
